With fruit and vegetables through the menopause

Hot flushes, sleep disorders, dry mucous membranes and mood swings are all classic symptoms that can occur in the menopause. Women suffering from it could help a diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, as a new study in the journal "Menopause" reported. In the case of some fruits and vegetables complaints, the urine, however, were increasingly and reproductive organs were observed.

The more fruits and vegetables the study participants took, the lower their menopausal symptoms were. Earlier studies have shown that diet can play a crucial role for the symptoms in the menopause. In particular, a Mediterranean diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, grains, and nuts was associated with less complaints in the menopause.

Now the scientists have investigated the effect of individual fruit and vegetables in different menopausal complaints. The results showed that, compared with all other varieties, the consumption of citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables and orange coloured vegetables such as carrot, pumpkin or sweet potato more often with complaints of the urinary and sexual organs was connected.

"This is a small cross-sectional study provides some preliminary evidence for the influence of the intake of fruits and vegetables on the symptoms of Menopause.
