There’s plenty of evidence that excessive porn habits in men can have some pretty negative consequences, but a new study has highlighted similar issues for women.
Researchers from the University of New Brunswick surveyed more than 1,000 adults, two thirds of which were women, and they found that porn is leading to ladies being let down in the bedroom.
And while porn is said to be a good way to spice up your sex life, sex on screen is shown to last longer than your average sesh, orgasms are easily (and repeatedly) achieved and feature larger than normal penises. The research found that not only are these expectations not being met in real life, viewing porn is also making women feel insecure about their own bodies.
“The often narrow representations of sexual performance and physical attractiveness in pornography may be linked to sexual concerns and sexual expectations among young men and women,” the researchers say.
“E.g., body and performance related sexual distractions, negative genital self-image, expectations of one’s partner.”
“The results of this investigation suggest that individuals who consume visual pornography may experience some forms of sexual insecurity and sexual expectations related to their porn use.”
