The UK is currently facing a mini heatwave which is causing some uncomfortable nights.
One person said on Twitter: “Did anyone actually sleep last night? #heatwave”
Another said: “What a restful night’s sleep, said no one in the UK. #heatwave”.
Most peoples’ first thought when the heat kicks in indoors is to reach for an electric fan.
The website goes on to explain how this can cause dry eyes, which will lead to major irritation.
The same goes for people who sleep with their mouths open.
Sleeping with the fan on can also dry out nasal passages, which could affect the sinuses.
Sleep Advisor also explains you may wake up with sore muscles after sleeping with the fan on.
This is because “concentrated cool air can make muscles tense up and cramp”.
“This problem is especially common for people who sleep with it near their face or neck”.
The NHS recommends keeping rooms cool by shutting windows and pulling down shades when it is hotter outside.
Then, when it’s cooler open the windows for ventilation.
The NHS continues: “Keep rooms cool by using shades or reflective material outside the windows.
“If this is not possible, use light-coloured curtains and keep them closed.”
