But what does the science say? Do clinical trials reveal that these ingredients work?
Researchers from Northumbria University agree with Lielbling. They investigated the effects of montmorency cherry on their participants.
Enrolling 20 volunteers, they either consumed a placebo or montmorency cherry for seven days.
Measures of sleep quality were recorded by actigraphy and subjective sleep questionnaires.
At the end of the experiment, the total melatonin content was significantly elevated in those who took the supplement.
In addition, those exposed to montmorency cherry had an increased total sleep time compared to the placebo group.
The researchers concluded that the ingredient was “beneficial in improving sleep duration and quality”.
