When makeup mogul Lauren Curtis dishes out skincare advice, you’d wanna listen up. After all, there’s a reason she has almost 4 million subscribers on YouTube and an extra 1.5mill on Instagram. We chat to the Priceline Beauty School ambassador about all things blemishes, brows and perfecting your base.
What’s your daily beauty routine?
I keep my daily beauty routine pretty simple. After I wash my face and apply my skincare I’ll simply fill in my brows and apply mascara! I like to keep it as quick and easy as possible.
Do you have any tricks for dealing with blemishes?
A great skincare regime is key, and so is consistency. Find the products that work for you and keep using them and your skin will thank you for it. If you do happen to get a few blemishes, I like to dab a little dot of concealer onto the head of the pimple and softly blend out the edges only, so that most of the coverage is focused on where the redness is. Also – don’t pick your pimples! It creates a scar and the redness takes even longer to die down.
What’s your secret to faking great skin without a full face of foundation?
I love to use primers that add a beautiful glow to the skin, such as the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Pure Light primer. Highlight the areas of your face that you want to draw attention to, and conceal the spots that you want to draw attention away from. Also, instead of using foundation to conceal blemishes, try only using concealer on the affected areas and let the rest of your skin breathe. Your complexion will look much more even with the concealer, whilst still looking natural and glowy due to the primer and highlighter and lack of foundation.
Any tips to make yourself feel more confident when you go makeup free?
I find that having a tan (fake or real!) always makes me feel amazing and makes my skin look more even, which of course increases my confidence.
What three products do you never leave home without?
Mascara, brow powder and lip balm! The Maybelline Super Sizer mascara is amazing, as is the Australis Oh Hai! brow kit.
Any weird (but genius) DIY beauty hacks?
I like to moisturise my face and my brows and then immediately apply my brow powder. The tacky base ensures that the brow powder sticks to my skin and makes it super easy to create clean, defined brows!
What’s been your favourite beauty trend this year?
I don’t really follow beauty trends as I prefer to apply my makeup in such a way that suits me and my face, rather than just doing what’s trendy.
How do you deal with trolls on social media?
I just keep in mind that they must be unhappy within themselves if they spend their time trying to bring others down to their level. I have so much to be grateful for and I try to focus on that, rather than the negativity.
Do you have any beauty influences?
I’m constantly being inspired by the people around me, celebrities, strangers, you name it!
