According to the October 2022 SHE Media Medical Gaslighting survey, 72 percent of respondents experienced medical gaslighting. Signs of medical gaslighting include being stereotyped, feeling misunderstood, being dismissed, and being blamed by your doctor. Additionally, 71 percent of people surveyed were told by a medical practitioner their symptoms were made up or imagined.

Gaslighting can have serious consequences for patients, including on-going emotional and mental distress. As a result, 31 percent of people surveyed discussed their experiences with a therapist or stopped seeking treatment for their condition altogether.
