L’Oréal is boosting its brand teams.
The beauty company has appointed Elisabeth Araujo as chief operating officer at It Cosmetics, Isabel Malbois as president of Urban Decay and Kathy Chi Thurber as global and U.S. general manager of Clarisonic.
Currently president of Clarisonic and beauty devices at L’Oréal, Araujo’s new role as chief operating officer will focus on supporting It Cosmetics’ business in the U.S. and driving growth in international markets. She will report to Xavier Vey, president and chief operating officer of L’Oréal Luxe USA; Cyril Chapuy, deputy general manager of L’Oréal Luxe Worldwide, and It Cosmetics founders Jamie Kern Lima and Paulo Lima.
“Elisabeth has a proven successful track record of managing brands with strong personalities,” Vey said. “It Cosmetics is no different and is the natural next step for Elisabeth with its dynamic innovation, disruption and growth within the market.”
Previously general manager at Urban Decay Global Business Development, Malbois has been promoted to president of the brand. Prior to her current role, Malbois served as general manager of Urban Decay in the U.K., where she increased the brand’s distribution, created a successful trade strategy and aided in the brand’s digital transformation. She will also report directly to Vey.
“I am delighted to continue my journey with Urban Decay — a passionate, exciting, color-obsessed brand that I have completely fallen in love with over the years,” Malbois said. “To take on the role of president in Urban Decay’s most important home market is an honor and I look forward to working closely with the team and with the U.S. retailers to bring Urban Decay’s unique ‘beauty with an edge’ to even more U.S. makeup consumers.”
Chi Thurber has been promoted to global and U.S. general manager of Clarisonic. She will be responsible for continuing the brand’s mission of developing at-home beauty devices that leverage user-focused technological innovations with professional results. Chi Thurber will also report to Vey and Chapuy.
Prior to this role, Chi Thurber served as the senior vice president of U.S. marketing and sales for Clarisonic where she developed the brand’s U.S. market strategy and turned 100 percent of the brand’s investment into digital properties, which customized the consumer experience. She also helped the brand achieve double-digit growth across direct-to-consumer channels this year.
“Kathy came to L’Oréal five years ago and quickly established herself as a critical player to the success of the business,” Vey said. “Her passion for the brand, her team and her desire to elevate the technology through consumer centricity makes her the natural lead for the brand in the U.S. and globally.”
