Miley Cyrus has been the topic of some colourful headline s— those featuring weed, wrecking balls, veganism and her intimate practices with Liam Hemsworth to name a few. While Cyrus herself is oftentimes the source of many of these news bites, other headlines are just that—rumours. The latest Cyrus headline, that she’s studying tantric sex to spice up sex life with Hemsworth, is yet to be confirmed by the singer/actress, but it does have us all wondering one thing: Tantric sex? What the hell is that?
You’ve probably heard about tantric sex before, but probably don’t know exactly what it entails. Tantric sex is a Hindu practice that dates back 5,000 years. It refers to the “weaving and expansion of energy” during sex and is said to create a higher level of intimacy. It’s also said to lead to some pretty amazing orgasms, so it makes sense that any couple—Sting practices it!—would want to add it to their their arsenal of bedroom practices.
This type of sex, according to nationally recognised sex expert Emily Morse involves “connecting to your body to your partner’s body” via ritual, massage, and coordinated breathing. But technique isn’t the point here. Morse says that tantric sex is all about letting go of “any taboo or shame” associated with the act and viewing it as what it is: a deeply liberating experience.
We have no idea whether or not this is something Cyrus and Hemsworth are doing, but we do know that real people happily practice tantric sex.
Sex is great, but there’s way more out there than just your go-to positions — and if you aren’t diligent about giving it the attention it deserves, it can become very stale, very quick.
