The Adorable Reason Why Cameron Diaz Is Glad She Didn't Get Married Until Age 42

Cameron Diaz has been open in the past about not being sure if she’d ever get married. But she eventually did, marrying Benji Madden in 2015 when she was 42.

Now, 44, Cameron says she knows she made the right choice in waiting to get hitched. “I think it’s a matter of I just hadn’t met my husband,” she said during a Gwyneth Paltrow-moderated panel at the “In Goop Health” wellness summit on Saturday, per People. “I had boyfriends before, and there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends.”

In fact, Cameron says that Benji stood out from all of the other men she’d been with in that he was the first guy she felt was really her partner. “He’s just my partner in life, in everything,” she said. “I’ve never had anyone who supported me so much and gave me so much courage to be myself and to really explore myself. My husband has been able to show me what it’s like to […] be an equal. And I’ve learned so much from him. I look at him every day and he inspires me. I feel so lucky.”

Cameron pointed out, per the Daily Mail, that she and Benji are “two very different people” but they share the same values, which makes them right for each other. She also said she and her husband are “totally two peas in a pod. We’re both just weird enough for each other. He’s my perfect little weirdo and I’m his perfect little weirdo.”

Cameron says that women are objectified a lot, but Benji never looked at her that way. “Somehow my husband has just been able to kind of show me what it’s like not to have that be a part of a relationship, and being an equal,” she said.
