Make Up For Ever Just Launched a New Foundation That's PERFECT For Oily and Acne-Prone Skin

When a foundation says it lasts 24 hours, I always cut that time in half because my oily skin has a tendency to make foundation play a disappearing act. Something about the natural oils of my skin breaks down the pigments and leaves my face looking shinier than Ariana Grande's engagement ring. (And yes, I've used primers and oil-reducing products.) Because of this, when I got the brand-new Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin and saw "24H" printed on the tube, I was skeptical.

For the past two days, I unintentionally put the foundation through the ringer, and I'll tell you right now, it held its own. On Sunday, I had it on while I walked as fast as my short legs could take me in the rain to get to a venue for a K-pop concert, and I didn't have streaks down my face once I got there. Once the show started, I danced and sang along to every song and somehow lost my voice. But my foundation didn't fail me. It was in all the places where I applied it earlier in the day.

After getting five hours of sleep, I reached for the Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin the next day, knowing I'd need something heavy-duty once again. After working on some stories, I basically swam through the humid New York summer air to chat with said K-pop group after an event. Then, I went to a Britney Spears concert and body-rolled my way through "Toxic." All the while, my foundation stayed put.

So what makes the foundation able to withstand a humid NYC summer, two concerts, and my destructively oily skin? The creamy matte formula.

When you squeeze the Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin out of its tube, you'll notice the formula seems thick. Honestly, that made me nervous. When it's steamy outside, the last thing I want is a layer of heavy foundation all over my face. Once I started blending it into my skin, though, the foundation melted into my skin like a gel-cream moisturizer. I forgot its original form because it felt so lightweight. I like to smooth it onto my face with my hands before stamping it into my skin with the Sigma Beauty 3DHD Blender, in case you were wondering.

Just because it has a lightweight consistency doesn't mean it sacrifices coverage. Matte Velvet Skin touts itself as full-coverage like the Best of Beauty Award-winning Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. However, it doesn't mask skin in the way that only looks amazing in photos and not everyday wear. I like to think of Matte Velvet Skin as a skin tint for those with oily and acne-prone skin. (Let's be real, most skin tints are for those with glass skin.) It conceals redness, hyperpigmentation, and breakouts without caking over it with a flat, matte finish. Instead, it evens everything out while leaving skin with dimensional, natural-looking effect. With many traditional mattifying foundations, you have to go over it with a highlighter to make that happen.

You can shop the Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin now for $38 on sephora.com and makeupforever.com. Just like its other foundations, Make Up For Ever is staying true to its wide complexion range with 40 shades, so basically everyone who wants to experience the wonders of this long-lasting, yet natural-looking formula can.
